Just like everyone else it is important for people with ADHD to get in all of our nutrients in order to stay healthy and prevent disease. To help show where our various nutrients come from, we use a list of what we refer to as 5 core food groups.
These are basically categories that types of food fit into – the names of each group describe simply what is in each group.
Now, it’s no use taking everything from one of our food groups, rather, it is important you have a balanced diet. This means, taking a little from each of the 5 core food groups each day. A balanced diet utilising the five core food groups is recommended to achieve optimal health and wellbeing.
Here are our 5 core food groups as per the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating:
- Vegetables
- Fruit
- Grains
- Diary
- Protein
