Lately dairy has been getting a bad wrap for being the cause of many individuals bad health, upset tummies and even acne problems. However, none of this has been proven in research unless unknown dairy intolerances were detected. Dairy foods consist of products such as milk, yoghurts, and cheese.
Dairy is a core component of a healthy diet, and the Australian guidelines recommend 2.5-4 serves a day depending on your age, gender, and physical status. Everyone is aware that dairy is the main source of calcium for strong bones, as other foods struggle to provide adequate calcium. However, dairy products also provide a huge range of other nutrients that are important for health such as protein, carbohydrates, electrolytes for hydration and plenty of vitamins and minerals for overall health.
Health Benefits of Dairy
- Healthy happy gut: Dairy provides both pre and probiotics which are nutrients that the gut bacteria can feed off to help keep your bowels happy.
- Healthy & Strong Bones: Most of our bones are made up of calcium and consuming dairy every day will provide our body with more calcium and store majority of it in our bones
- Weight Management: Dairy can help us feel full and provides us with protein. Research has shown that the effects of dairy can help us feel fuller for longer and lessen our chance of food cravings
- Heart Health: No research shows that eating dairy can have negative effects on heart health. If anything, it can improve heart health by helping maintain a healthy weight
