In this, your first week with Able Digital Wellness, we’d like you to focus on reducing the amount of refined sugar you have in your diet.
When we eat sweet foods, our body breaks down the sugar into glucose to use as energy, however in excess this can lead to weight gain and chronic diseases like Diabetes.
Refined sugar comes in many forms and is found in many food and drinks you might consume regularly. To help you avoid refined sugar and really make the most of your wellness journey with us here are some tips from our Dietician:
- Try to avoid adding sugar to food and drink. Whether its brown sugar, white sugar, or honey, our body recognises it all the same, so less is best. Swapping for an alternative like Stevia can help reduce your intake.
- Choose water as your main drink and avoid sweet drinks such as soft drink, cordial, energy drinks or sports drinks. Even fruit juice can contain more natural sugar than we need so water is still best.
- Sweet foods like cake, biscuits, and ice-cream all contain added sugars. Try making these at home and halving the quantity of sugar that the recipe suggests!
Making your own food is something we’ll always encourage – not only is it easy to control what you put in (sugar especially), but it also creates a bunch of other positives …
- Cooking can be fun! with friends or even on your own
- It’s a great way to learn more independence through developing new skills
- There are some tasty and healthy recipe’s provided by Maty, your Able trainer, in your members area ready for download
If you have any questions about sugar or would like one-on-one dietary advice from your Able Dietician, send us a message letting us know what you’re after and we’ll be in touch to help you achieve your goals!
